In the article, “Multitasking Can Make You Lose ... Um ... Focus” the author shows how modern day devices are encouraging people to multitask and the effects of this alternative, “While multitasking may seem to be saving time, psychologists, neuroscientists and others are finding that it can put us under a great deal of stress and actually make us less efficient” (Tugend 2). As phones, laptops, and the fast-acting Internet continue to allow people to access and process more information and actions at once, people find it more productive to complete multiple tasks at once. The article “Shifting Attention Spans” links the human mind’s diminishing attention span to society’s increasing dependency and subjection to technology, “”(). As people try to move faster using multitasking, they lose their ability to focus fully on one specific task. People feel a need to move so fast and complete so many things that they don’t focus on each aspect of what is happening, and our minds are constantly shifting from one thing to another. The other articles also emphasize this idea that humanity’s capacity to reach its full cognitive potential is being limited by the use of technology. In addition, the decrease in a person’s deep focus on the details of an action or observation influences the ability of the person to prolong their focus on that task. Researched evidence supports this as it shows that the efficiency of technology has decreased the average attention span, as people feel rewarded for moving from one task to another quickly. All in
