The ROWE plan is a innovative idea for the workplace. ROWE, or results only work environment, is based off a premise that employees who have flexible work practices make for a more efficient, valuable, loyal and productive workforce. The plan boasts the worker has a healthier balance of home/work life. However, micromanaging employers or managers see this as a preposterous option for fear of employees taking advantage of the freedom and not trusting the employees enough to act in the best interest of the organization.
In the Best Buy and Gap Outlet division the benefit of the ROWE plan to the companies was pretty dramatic. Best Buy sited an 18 percent decrease in the turnover rates and a 35 percent increase in productivity, estimating the company was saving approximately 13 million dollars a year in replacement costs.
