Appreciation of the Past with Influences on the Present

You can’t create a mansion without pouring a solid foundation. This applies the same way to generations. Without the strong backbone of the past, the future would be completely out of reach. If our past was wiped, we lose our culture, beliefs, and most things that make us human. We would lose a sense of morals and feel bigger than we really are. The past has taught us many things that have advanced our technology and designs. The iPhone would have never been created if Alexander Graham Bell hadn’t invented the telephone. An appreciation of the past can be observed in both Stones and among the group of Native hip hop artists. We have to appreciate who we are and what we have become, but that’s impossible without acknowledging how we got here in the first place.

This type of music can reach out to young natives, reminding them of their culture and who they are. It is important to remain in touch with your origin. Since conforming to society may require your ability to interact the same, think the same, talk the same, and look the same as others, there would come a time that you would start questioning why your skin is darker than others or why you have a thicker accent. If you don’t have your heritage to guide you and answers these questions, you may blame yourself for being different, which may lead to depression or other mental illnesses.
