My Continuing Educational Goals

Growing up I’d just figured school and learning had a cutoff point (fast forward some 30 plus year’s later), boy was I wrong. Now married with kids, I must show them how continuing educational goals helps them be successful in life. Recently I had a talk with my oldest child (who is a high school freshman) about how important it is to get good grades. In our conversation I ask him what he want to be “a Sports Doctor!” he said. My next question was “did you plan out what classes you need, to accomplish this goal?” his answer “No”. Five years ago, I decided to go back to school and earn my Master’s Degree. Completing my Master’s Degree in Information Technology Management, allows me to fulfill one of my goals. I’ve always been intrigued with computers and programing, ever since I got a Commodore 128 computer in the 80’s. …show more content…

Currently I work in the Directorate of Resource Management (DRM) as a Resource Management Analyst. I also have an additional duty as the IT person for our organization; handling all computer related questions. With my degree it gives me the opportunity to better assist within our organization. My immediate goal at work; is to complete my Level 2 DoD Financial Management FM Certification by July 2016. As an adult student trying to balance family, work and school is challenging. Due to the rising cost of college; I’m limited on how many classes I can take per year. I always strive to be fiscal responsible with my family’s financial obligations, while pursing my educational goals. Sometimes taking a new class will be put off until it is feasible to pursue.
