A life experience made me strong, but because I was so young, I do not remember going through it, just the after math of how it changed my life. When I was almost two years old my aunt was tickling me and she saw a bump under my throat area. She showed my parent and I was taken to the doctor, where the found a cyst, a hypoglossal duct cyst The physician said this type of cyst will appear on the neck, the pocket will form in the front part of neck and fill with fluid. This kind of cyst is formed from leftover tissue from the development of the thyroid gland when an embryo is forming, the thyroid gland is located in the front of the neck and it is part of the hormone-producing glands called the endocrine system. The physician told my parents this type of cyst forms during the early stages in the development of an embryo, it begins at the base of the tongue and moves down the neck. The cyst was probably present at the time of my birth, but because I was premature it was not found until I was two. You see I made up my own words for the things I wanted, so once again my mother took me to my pediatrician, she referred me to a speech therapist for evaluation and it turned out I was speech delayed. I went through many years of speech therapy, and when I started school, I had to go to a special school, because in the New York City school system if you needed any kind of therapy, you had to go to a special school, the public school system could not accommodate giving special help. My mother felt that school would not allow me to grow, so she put me in private school, because they had smaller classes and I could get extra help, and every day she would pick me up from school and take me for speech therapy at another
