Being able to provide the dental patient with a degree of happiness and peace of mind is the most rewarding aspect of dentistry, and I credit my university and my professors with this affirming experience. I study under incredible doctors and practice on a high volume of patients while providing high quality care to underserved populations at UNIBE in the Dominican Republic. It is refreshing to see the relief and happiness on patients’ faces after they receive treatment. My goal is to be a leading dentist, and I strive to be a preeminent clinician by contributing to research, perfecting my clinical skills and continuing to aid underserved populations. Research has been a key part of my dental school experience. At UNIBE students are expected to work on their area of interest, whether it be basic sciences, pre-clinical or clinical courses. Students must be able to conduct successful patient assessments and conduct case presentations before their peers. Peer presentations represent a critical learning element that has help built my skills and character both as a dental professional and a student. As the end of dental program approaches, my classmate and I will present a final research paper to our peers where it will be judged by faculty and administration. I have assisted many of my peers in procedures such as open flap extractions and tori removal. I have also assisted the residents in the postgraduate programs with pediatric patients, connective tissue graft placement with tunnel technique and even one mentoplaty. I am interested in applying research techniques to my clinical work, and I hope to continue learning from other more experienced doctors in my residency
