My Experience With Odysseus In Homer's Odyssey

I have heard many stories of the great Odysseus. His actions presumably heroic in the Trojan War as others call it. Though, my encounter with Odysseus changed my assumption of him from the day the mortal stepped into my land. He is no hero, but rather a coward full of greed and pure hubris.

It all started when I awoke, listening to the wind in the distance echo over Poseidon's sea. It was to be a bright day, I thought. I came back from my long workday of removing boughs of trees; the fire was much needed in the moaning cave. I opened the cave with my giant hands. "Fear no god," I told myself aloud, "for I am Polyphemus." With a poised attitude, I opened the cave doors with ease, which would be impossible for a man. The pain I felt came back again as I exclaimed to Odysseus, " the wizard, Telemus, one of the sons of Eurymus, foretold things that seem to be weird: my great eye lost , and at the hands of Odysseus. All this time I had thought Odysseus would be a giant that would have been bigger than I am. Though, it is only a small and pitiful man. It is quite embarrassing for a Cyclops like me to be blinded by a man and even become drunk with the wine made by a mortal like you. This is why I want to make peace with you. Forgive me for killing your men. I regret my action and want you to come back. I pray that my father, Poseidon befriends you. Since he is my father, I have the intention that he will heal me of my wound and return my eye that was lost."

I tried to make peace with Odysseus. Though, with a notion of being brutal in his words, he replied, " your father cannot heal you in hell. That is where you would go if I had the moment to come back to this island and kill you." My feet were shaken up on the edge of the cliff. These scoundrels left the Cyclopes island; the men ruining my life and laughing it off with rams that mean so much to me. To add, the confidence within me became a shadow. To believe a mortals name is Nohbdy is quite foolish to think. Obviously no Cyclops should believe what a mortal
