“We think we 're the center of the universe. We think everything revolves around us.”-(Riley Matthews, Girl Meets World) For the past month now, I have thought about what my story would be. The answer to that question still has not come, but it 's okay because the truth is my story is not just my story. It involves a lot more people than just me and how I will use it in the future. First thing first, however, we have to start at the beginning. When I was born I came a month earlier than expected and two days after my mother 's birthday. This year a lot of bad history was created, not only in the world but my personal life too. Back in May, my grandmother passed away and it hit me pretty hard. It was the first time I had lost someone close to me and it left my family financially unstable. My family has never been wealthy, but right now is probably the poorest we have ever been. When my grandma died, my mom lost her job. She worked as an in-home caretaker for my grandmother. Since independent caretakers are no longer allowed she wasn’t able to find another job. It is half of what has inspired me to go into a history major. The other half was a tv show called Girl Meets World, which focuses on a teenage girl as she grows up and realizes more about the world around. The series has been able to teach me many things and realize how important history is so we don’t repeat past mistakes and possibly prevent new ones. It has shown me that sometimes we are not always right about our decisions even when they seem to be goods one. I want to be able to improve our world, but I don’t think I can do without help. I didn’t survive the first seventeen years of my life on my own. It was because of family, friend, teachers, and even media that I even got through the last four years of it. Now, I am taking a step forward, so I can help others like they helped me, but I can not do that without your assistance. I want to change history for the better. To be able to teach people that everything we do matters. To show them that even the smallest of parts you do can have big effects. There 's this story about how a boy walked the beach every morning to throw starfish back into the ocean. A man came up to him and asked him why he did it when it wouldn’t matter. The answer is simple because maybe it didn’t help every starfish but it helped that one. I fully believe that with a degree in history and can help change the world for the better.
