My monthly mentor meeting this month is something I have been looking forward to for almost a month now. It was almost a month ago that I went to a concert in Greensboro, NC and saw a band called Phinehas perform. After they had played their set I went up to their merch table where they were hanging out with fans and asked them if they would be my monthly mentor. To my surprise they said yes. The band member that I met with was Lee Humerian the drummer for the band. The reason that I chose to meet with them (on top of the fact that they are my favorite band) was because I was curious as to how they were informed of their call to be in the world of metalcore music. The reason I was curious to this is because it has been a dream of mine …show more content…
The reason He does this is to bring you into the call that He has placed upon your life. I learned this through Lee telling me about how he had been prophesied over that he would “use his hands and feet for the glory of God through drumming.” but he did not want to play in a church band. So, instead of stepping into his call of drumming for God he went to film school. Shortly thereafter he found himself taking music and one thing led to another then he joined Phinehas. The way I extrapolated the lesson from this is through thinking about my own life and how most every time that I have started to make a critical life decision God would give me wisdom about what to do. But, when I ignored this wisdom God would shut the doors that he did not want me to go through. I am very thankful to God for doing this and also realize that as I grow in my spiritual maturity He will allow me to choose the doors I walk through, even if it is one that will make stepping into my call take longer. As Lee said in my interview with him “God is in control but we have a responsibility to answer the …show more content…
The way that I learned this through our conversation was through Lee speaking to me about how, before he went to college, he had a head knowledge of God but not a real desire to know Him. He then said that he had only followed God because he did not want to disappoint his parents. I really related to the part of his story where he was only following God because of a fear of disappointment. My reason for relating to this is that in my own life when I was younger I too felt that I must follow God solely on the reason that I did not want to disappoint my parents. After he had talked about his faith when he was younger Lee started to tell me about how his life and faith had changed once he started attending a Christian college that was three hours away from his home. He spoke about how he had to take an upper division atheism study class where he attended college. Through his professor making well formulated arguments both for and against atheism he was forced to choose his faith. I feel as though I can relate this, perhaps not in the experiences he had but through the way that he felt it was time to choose a side and no longer simply sit on the
