My Path I was fourteen year old when I got that letter in the mail that I thought changed my whole life. The beginning of the letter and of course all I read said “we would like to invite you to join the Medic Explorer post 911”. You see since I was little all I wanted to do was be part of the rescue team. I did not know what that really entailed excepted I knew it was for me, so you see this was my chance to start my journey little did I know at the time my journey had already begun. You see my life has always had to do with things medical. When I was about three years old all I would watch on television was thing about fire and rescue. It was a cardiac arrest PR was in progress. I remember feeling excited and pumped up. You see before we could ride along there were a certain amount of time we had to spend training and attending meeting all the time listening to my advisor Sabra’s radio. Sabra Ensley she was my biggest influence as a medic and for becoming an adult. Sabra was the logistics officer at MEDIC. She was a well educated woman that taught me how to be the best medic I could be. Every meeting night we would go over how to do a patient assessment we did this every meeting. We did this so much I can probably do one in my sleep. Honestly I probably have but that’s another story. We arrived on the scene of the cardiac arrest only to find out it was a 14 year old girl losing her battle with cancer. It’s funny I always wondered if I would get sick or scared see my first dead person, especially one my own age. I felt nothing I was numb.
