My Personal Philosophy
The essence of becoming a nurse and caring for patients in need requires special characteristics and traits. Without obtaining special qualities and beliefs as a nurse, one can not connect with patients and co-workers on a personal level. I believe the most important aspect in nursing is the patient’s health, and the nurse’s health. A patient’s health and care plan can play a role in safety, comfort, and mental, physical, and emotional health. With this, it is also important to ensure the nursing staff is mentally, physically, and emotionally healthy; in order to guarantee quality care to the best of their ability. I feel that the foundation of quality care for patients is the health of the nurses. Without the full health of a nurse, a patient may feel dissatisfied. A nurse who may be feeling overwhelmed, sick, or emotional may carry these feelings onto their patients, creating additional feelings …show more content…

It is important for a nurse to recognize the differences in emotions and needs of each individual patient. Overall, every patient should feel safe, comfortable, and relieved. As a nurse, I would make sure to prioritize patients who may have greater needs or injuries. While doing this, I would also ensure fair treatment to every patient. The environment should feel as comfortable and safe as possible for each patient. A hospital can be intimidating and frightening; I feel it is important to be there for each patient emotionally and physically. Lastly, a nurse's needs should be met and recognized as well. Without good health and well-being for nurses, it is difficult for quality, positive care to be met. While it is important to recognize possible sacrifices a nurse must make, it is also important to recognize their mental, physical, and emotional health as well.
