My skills of writing in german have improved over the course of my years. The project of writing a fairy tale shows great expansion of my skills. From German II, I wrote a paragraph about the holiday Sechseläutenfete and my skills were lacking. In my story, I have the vocabulary like “Plötzlich” and genitive like “die Liebe einer Mutter” while in my paragraph the most advance word is “verbrennen”. Also, the writing from the midterm to the story shows growth. At the time of the midterm, I did not know simple past and in the story, there were only simple past sentences. However, the skills gained previously to the midterm appeared in my fairy tale. I am super proud of my story because within it has multiple different types of sentences and vocabulary, unlike my other two pieces of writing. I elaborated on my sentences in the story, unlike the paragraph in German II where it jumped around and none of the sentences flowed together. In German II, we were mostly reading graphs and at the end of German III, I can read entire stories and semi-comprehend what is happening. The story of Little Red Riding Hood is completely different than looking at a graph with few words upon it and some stats. With an expanded vocabulary, I am able to understand words that look similar and infer what the main idea or theme is behind it. At the beginning of German III, we look at ads for german places. This skill is useful in life because it can allow someone to read german and gain information about said sign or ad. To expand my learning as a german student I can seek out more information written in german. I can also look at blogs or magazines to expand my reading capabilities.
