My song, Yours or Mine, is a relatively simple song, with a common 4/4 time signature and a tempo around 100 bpm. It starts with an eight-bar instrumental introduction before moving into the actual song, which consists of three verses. Given this layout, the song most nearly fits into the simple verse form. The basic rhythm, 1, &, &, 3, 4, which permeates the song, is played over the first three bars in the phrase, as well as the first note in the fourth bar. Following this first note, there is silence for the next three beats until the melody comes back in on beat one of the next measure. Although this is the main structure of the song, the rhythm varies slightly from verse to verse. For instance, in the last line of the first verse, the rhythm changes to include a pickup eighth note corresponding with the word “just.”

In respect to the instrumentation, all parts are dropped except for the clear piano and lead vocalist. And in respect to timbres, the lead vocalist reverts back to the original, pure texture. This change is meant to show the calmness of the individual; he had his breakdown and is now thinking clearly. In the lyrics, we see that the narrator is actually the subject of the song, which is meant to show the listener that they can never truly know who is suffering privately. In addition, the narrator has also confronted his ex, either emotionally or physically, and is deciding whether or not to end his own or her life. The overall meaning of the song is that, in society, people may not be as emotionally stable as they appear and that, in general, relationships are messy and difficult and can lead to crises. I want the listener and the public to know that even their closest friends may not be as mentally sound as they want to
