I have personally improved in writing papers because coming from a background where English was not as important, I had to struggle to learn American English language. In India, I was taught English as my second language and the English I learned in India was British English. British English and American English are two different things because the pronunciation, grammar, and spellings vary. Learning something that you already know and learning something similar in way to something you already know is struggle. I personally wrote so many “Child drafts” like the Anne Lamott mentioned, but I needed a lot of help in shaping my papers
When I was younger I wanted to become a writer for a while. I wrote a short story when I was in the fourth grade. I remember my teacher telling me it wasn’t good that it was terrible. She also had said that I had a good story but the writing wasn’t well. But I was only nine , and since then I always believe I am not a good writer
A good writer isn't just born; there's a need in nature to perfect that skill with persistence, with persistence both previously bad and good writers keep improving and they both can reach the same level of literary success. The path to becoming a good writer is outdated, the consistent type of assignment students receive to improve their writing is monotonous, making writers lose interest. “Writing experiences that broaden the writer’s audience or provide real contexts such as blogs or service learning placements in the community can help new writers see themselves as real authors with real audiences and see the act of writing as a socially located activity”
She a firm believer that all writers will always have more to learn. No matter how hard someone tries to study and try to learn to become a better writer, you cannot know it all. Writing constantly changes and you can acquire new techniques and lessons throughout time. There is always room for improvement and techniques to make your writing better. Writing requires an effort that will help you out in the future and make you stronger and a more educated person.
I selected these two papers because I thought they were the two I could most improve on. With the “The Sounds” I worked on grammar and rewording a few cliche’ sayings. I also added a little of dialogue and fixed my work cited page and finally cleaned up the ending, and also added a little to it. With the “The Teen Suicide Epidemic” I again worked on grammar and also some spelling.
As an English as a second language speaker, writing is very challenging for me. I feel like I had two brains which are communicating together at the same time. As I mentioned before I do have a hesitation about telling a story in English. This left me feeling frustrated, scared, angry, and ashamed. Even I progress on speaking after taking accent reduction class.
How did I become a better writer? To become a better writer you have to start somewhere. I started to become a better writer during my senior year of high school. The class of 2016 senior exit portfolio was the break out of my writing skills. A collection of personal essays and a seven page research paper will change the way i write forever.
I found student essay number two to be more free of error than student essay one was. Even though it had less issues in it, it still was not perfect as it is very hard for anyone regardless of academic status to write without error. The three main problems that I found in this essay were spelling, usage, and formatting. Spelling was an issue for the writer of this paper in a few different instances. The errors were small, and I did not find any huge glaring issues, but nonetheless, they were still issues.
How have I improved as a writer? I am thinking about my action plan as a writer have I improved, have I met the goals I set out to achieve on my first day of class, and what have I learned in this class? I will go over my time in this class and review the various topics I mentioned above and more. Looking back over my time in this class I will critique and praise myself. How I felt about writing when I first started this class compared to how I feel now, I would have to say I am more comfortable with writing.
In my writing at first I with many part of sentence structure and grammar. Trying to not mess up in structure I was unable convey my ideas. Over the course of the semester it has became easier by every essay. My improvement was some not severely, but learning the basic again will help me for all class and other English courses. Writing again was something I slowly was becoming accustomed again as before.
When it comes to writing I, for the most part have no clue on how to go about it. I have never exactly seen myself as a strong writer but there have been very few times where I would have said that my writing was weak. By no means do I think that I have the skills less than that of a high school student but at the same time, I wouldn’t go on to state I have the skills of an English major or even an English minor. That is my reason for taking WRT 098, I would like to improve my skills as a writer to at least the level a college student is supposed to be on as a freshman or maybe at an even higher level. My greatest fear about writing is that I try my best and it turns out to be one of those examples on what not to do in front of the class.
In college, I still struggle I knew I had to keep working when one of my professors had to tell me to work on my grammar. I went to the writing center and registered on North Star, a grammar website. I am still working on my grammar so my development continues. I was always able to read and write but being proficient using it is what is
Skills such as proper grammar and MLA format still need some adjustment. Even though I have things to improve, I was still able to improve some areas of my writing skills regardless even if it was a small improvement. In the beginning, like
Learning new skills in writing has assisted in so many over ways than just writing for school, it has helped in my career. Writing is such a beneficial trait to hold. I plan to improve day by day. I have so many opportunities available and plan to use to my full
Actually, if I’m being honest, my family sucks at writing. I was never placed in any special writing classes, but only the standard classes for school. I joined Intermediate composition to excel in my writing for my future. From this class, I’ve broadened my vocabulary and found new ways to check my pieces that I have wrote. I could always use more work with grammar because I have always struggled with that concept.
