Myths are typically passed down from generation to generation orally. Myths have specific characteristics. These characteristics include important themes and common elements. Some frequent themes of myths are nature, creation, and morals. Some common elements included in myths are earth, gods and heroes.
Fire a myth from the Alabama Tribe is about the origin of fire. Fire originally began in possession of Bear and his people. However, it was then passed over to Man after a falling out between Fire and Bear. The main characters of the myth are Fire, Bear, and Man. There are few aspects of a myth in this story. One of the aspects is origin. An example of origin in the story is, “In the beginning of the world, it was Bear who owned Fire.” This shows that Fire originated with Bear.
