There are many myths about the idea of someone having an eating disorders. None of these myths that will be talked about are true, sometimes a low weight and restrictive eating can biologically change a person's body function, which can become rooted in their life, making them have an eating disorder. The eating disorder include anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating, which are connected to having the highest mortality rate of any kind of mental illness. Though with the myths, people end up having a difficult time recovering and coping with what they have gone through. It starts to get complex when trying to figure out eating disorders, as there are many different emotions and external relationships that get combined into one. It is hard to fully understand why a person could act a certain way and may mistake them for having a different disorder than it is correlated to an eating disorder. It is hard to even acknowledge that it is a problem, or that there is even a problem to begin with, as many people around them may not even notice anything wrong. It is more than just body image problems, it is not a problem from a young age, and how people don't think it can't become life-consuming. It's important to take any signs of eating disorders seriously, as they can harm the body and cause damage to major organs like the heart which can lead to death, when not taken seriously. Overall an eating disorder is a type of serious mental health condition that is characterized by severe eating behaviors as well as related thoughts and emotions, which can trigger to start eating regularly and unhealthy. People with ED develop an unhealthy preoccupation with food and body size, or shape. An eating disorder can be rooted in trauma, anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, dieting, or starvation. As constant dieting can be a major risk factor for getting an eating disorder, especially when a person's weight can constantly change when getting on and off different diets. This can make a person develop body dysmorphia, and have a hatred for how they look, making them want to change their body and never feel content. Eating disorders don’t develop over a day, they develop over time, similar to any mental health condition, eating disorders begin differently for each person, and this can happen at any time. There isn't an actual cause to why people have eating disorders but many doctors do believe that it can come from genetic, physical, social, and psychological factors that can cause the development of an eating disorder. Having an eating disorder is similar to being an addict, like all addictions, someone cannot simply grow out of an addiction, as it usually consumes their whole life and can affect a person's ability to function regularly.
