Nancy Wake took a stand against Hitler and the Nazis by rescuing Jews and helping Allied soldiers cross the boarder of France into Spain. Nancy Wake was born in 1912, in and ran away from home at 16. She then moved from New Zealand to Paris, France and was married to Henri Fiocca in 1939. One day, she and her husband were in a restaurant and she saw across the street a couple American soldiers getting arrested. From there the guards would be taking them to a concentration camp. This made Nancy feel very depressed. In the book, Women Heroes of World War 11, it says, “When Nancy witnessed firsthand the bizarre and openly cruel behavior of the Nazi’s toward the German and Austrian Jews, she was revolted and extremely angry.” She decided …show more content…

She countlessly crossed the French and Spain border to rescue Allies and Jews. Once, she rode a bicycle all the way across France to get a message to the resistance, and also to deliver the weapons to them. She had to ride about 125 miles to get to a telephone operator. The trip was very painful. After she had completed her mission, she could not move for a couple days. But she said that all of that pedaling was worth it, because the Resistance got their supplies. Since Nancy Wake was constantly running back and forth through France and Spain, the Gestapo became suspicious and started watching her very closely, although they still did not know who was sneaking they Jews and Allies away to Spain. But they still were not positive that it was Nancy. The Gestapo gave the mystery person a nickname, “The White Mouse” because that person would find some way to sneak someone across the border. She was never caught. Little did they know that that person was Nancy Wake. On D-Day, Nancy led a group of about 7,000 soldiers to war. She was a very courageous person, and strong in the war. Like a person that wrote a web page telling us that Nancy Wake is a bad influence. “ I thought that Nancy Wake’s story was her overly active imagination, “ said the blogger. Some people may be like that one person out there. But know that Nancy’s story is true and a very inspirational story. They may say that Nancy Wake was not a great hero, but just another person out there who just did what everyone else was doing. But no, this is not the case. Nancy Wake was a true hero who did everything she could to bring down Hitler. She did extraordinary things that most of us would be too scared to do. She led an army. She did so many dangerous missions. All the time, she was under the risk of getting caught and handed over to the Gestapo. She did not back down from her job ever. She rescued Jews and helped out Allied soldiers and treated them not as a guest, but as a friend. She made sure she did as much as she could.
