In the memoir “Night by Ellie Wiesel '' Madame Schachter foreshadowed what would happen in the future. There are many literary devices used in chapter 2 but only some of them are the main points. At the beginning when she starts screaming they treat her like she's ill and she will stop but then it states . “We had forgotten Mrs. Schachter's existence and suddenly there was a terrible scream Jews look! Look at the fire Look at the flames and as the train stopped this time we saw flames rising from a tall chimney into a black sky” ( Wiesel 28).
In Night, the setting that Ellie Wiesel describes portrayed the Nazis cruel treatment to the Jews. The Nazis think that the Jews are animals. (11) “The barbed wire that encircled us like a wall.” They encircled the town with barbed wire, like they would do with animals. The Nazis named the street Serpent Street, because they thought that the Jews were the devil.

After being stranded on an island with no sign of rescue or grownups, the schoolboys need some form of government or leader to rule them all. The first day they discover they are not alone, the boys elect Ralph, one of the older boys, to lead them. He believes they need authority, in place of the grownups. Otherwise, chaos will break out, as it does later on. Golding’s Lord of the Flies serves as a perfect illustration of Hobbes’s philosophy on the brutish, selfish nature of man and, therefore, the need for a strong government.
My favorite song is “The Weekend” by an artist named SZA. The song is overall about SZA explaining how she knew and was willingly having an affair with a guy, that she would only see on the weekends, because he has a girlfriend. However, the overall purpose of the song, was to inform the listeners of how she finds pleasure in this wrongful doing. Within the song, the 3-three literary devices conveyed, which helped get the main points across are Metonymy, Visual imagery, and Paradox.
Grant Grubbs Mise-en-scene in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (Forman, 1975) is a good film with an even more interesting mise-en-scene. I noticed many things throughout the film relating to the arrangement of scenery and stage props. For starters, RP McMurphy always wore apparel that opposed the other inmates’ dull white uniforms (see image to the right). The clothes he chooses to wear appear normal, as if he weren’t locked up in an asylum. It seems that he believes he shouldn’t be wearing the white uniforms that other patients wear because he isn’t insane and that he wouldn’t stoop to the level of adhering to the policy.
In “Shoofly Pie”, the author Naomi Nye, writes the short story to share pieces of her own memories. Many of the details from the short story come from Naomi's own experience working at a restaurant. The story also works to convey that with time your wounds will heal. The main character in the book, speaks of her own experience and how the restaurant and the people changed her and how she changed the restaurant. This use of a maxim, “One thing about loss—you decided whom to share it with” (Nye 195).
Poetry is an important part of literature which conveys an author 's ideas across to the reader through the use of descriptive language. Poetry helps an author to express their inner emotions and often incorporates various poetic devices which enriches the text. Poetry gives the reader a different perspective and when read closely, can give the audience a look into the authors imagination. Likewise, poetic devices enhance the writing and can drastically change the mood of the poem, as well as, how the reader interprets the poem. Poetic devices are important in literature because they help to convey a message, add spontaneity to a poem, and give the reader a strong visual.
CATCHY TITLE HERE Why are women idealized only for their body? WAYG, WHYB, by Joyce Carol Oates is a fictional shorttory. Through Joyce’s display of femisinsm, a pedophile seduces a young female to come with him and use her for her body, which reveals society’s expectations of a woman in this time period.
It is set up in a messy structure to display the imagery, but still readable for the audience. The sentence “this is the time of lilly pillies plumping into (fullness)” in the first stanza has a bracket around it to represent the word that takes up the entire line, whereas the word “leaves” in the third stanza represents the line through the middle of a leaf. In the next sentence, the word “falling” has letters in a different line, making it look like the letters are actually falling down. On the next pages, the word “migration” is written with the letters spread out. This is because “migration” is when something moves away, so the letters are moving further away from each other.
The aspects of poetry vary throughout different poems.
Some poems may have a strict structural form while others may not. The writer can incorporate one of many poetic devices into his work to relay his message to the reader. Examples analyzed today include poetic sound, onomatopoeia, alliteration, rhyme, meter, and verse. An example of poetic sound, onomatopoeia, and alliteration can be found in Helen Chasin’s short poem “The Word Plum”.
People of any and every background face difficulties. Many people do not even know how many people support and care for them. For example, when a family's house in a community burns down, it is reassuring to see their neighbors, friends, family, and even strangers, come together in order to protect and help the family in a time of need. In Naomi Shihab Nye’s poem “Shoulders,” she shows just how important protecting loved ones is. “Shoulders” is about a father who needs to protect his son from the rain in order to let him sleep.

Every poem has a meaning to it, whether it is talking about food, interest, or a moment in their lives. Readers often mistake the poet as the narrator, although in many cases this is true. Many poets are the narrators and the poems are about their personal life.
Poems are short meaningful pieces of literature that can be interpreted in multiple ways depending upon the reader at hand. That is what makes a poem unique compared to other literature pieces because in a poem the author tends to use figurative language to fulfill meaning behind their work. One poem “Love is a Sickness Full of Woes” by Samuel Daniel describes the pains of being lovesick. Love can either benefit us if nurtured and cared for, but if not tended to then let loose can ultimately hurt us. As to another poem “American Solitude” by Grace Schulman describes a life of solitude being most warming to the soul to ward off loneliness.
