Napoleon Napoleon Bonaparte is a very influential figure in the history of France. He won many battles, but when he tried to extend his power he was banished from his reign. The goals of the French Revolution that happened prior to Napoleon’s reign were to have liberty, equality and fraternity. Napoleon stayed true to the ideals of the French revolution because he created the Napoleonic code, he created a republic and expanded his empire. Napoleon gave liberty, equality and fraternity to the people of France through the Napoleonic code. This was the French civil code that denied privileges based on birth, gave jobs to the most qualified people and allowed freedom of religion. These laws abolished the three estates and granted equal rights to all classes. This made thousands of noble emigrés return to France, as they had fled due to Robespierre and his Reign of Terror, as Robespierre tried to wipe out all traces of monarchy and nobility. Unfortunately, the Napoleonic code only granted rights for men and actually gave less privileges to the women, which was a downside of the laws.The Napoleonic code also created religious order by granting religious freedom to Protestants and Jews. France was desperate for a good powerful leader who could improve France, and they saw that leadership in Napoleon.
