Clever, heroic and cocky. these are the words that come to my mind when I think of Odysseus from the Odyssey. Although some people think Odysseus is not a hero nevertheless he is because he always did his best to save, help and was loyal to his men he also never gave up on returning back home to Ithaca to be with his wife Penelope and his son
The Odyssey, a story based on a great warrior who not just shows his mind but his faults. One fault being his pride. As of the day he went to fight the Trojan War, he was lost at sea for 20 years. Odysseus fought with smart and the hope of being able to defeat everyone in his path. One example of this is Odysseus built the trojan horse which helped him win the Trojan war.
An epic hero is someone who is characterized commonly on their nobility and bravery. However ,there are more attributes epic heros can posses. For example Odysseus, the protagonist in Homer's retelling of “The Odyssey”, shows many forms of excessive arrogance and pomposity. After conquering Troy, Odysseus and his men set off on their way home.
The Odyssey by Homer is an exemplary story that teaches life lessons to those going on a journey for themselves. It illustrates how the challenges and obstacles one may face can help someone become a better leader. The Odyssey highlights one man, Odysseus, a man filled with excessive pride, experiencing the wrath of the god Poseidon. He expects to arrive at his home, Ithaca, safely to reunite with his wife, Penelope, but unfortunately faces many temptations and setbacks. Due to the challenges he faces, it prevents him from arriving home as early as he thought he would.
Consequences of Pride Pride is typically perceived as a good thing. To have pride means to be confident in yourself, and it can empower you. However, taking too much pride in accomplishments can be harmful, as is seen in Homer’s The Odyssey and The Iliad, as well as George Orwell’s Animal Farm. The Odyssey follows the journey of a Greek hero returning from war, whose pride leads him to make a poor choice that results in negative consequences.

Odysseus reaches a heroic status through the lessons learned on his journey, which ultimately taught him the value of obedience and the dangers of arrogance. Initially, Odysseus appears to lack the heroic quality of humility, through his narcissistic nature.
