I heard them talking, my mom and stepfather. I knew what they were talking about, too. My stepfather who’s in the military got orders to Fort Hood, Texas. This was exciting for me, but at the same time, it was scary. Moving is sometimes exciting, but most often it is heartbreaking. I was afraid to move away from all of my friends. I worried constantly about not being able to make new friends down in Fort Hood, Texas. Because of the constant moving, I was afraid to meet anybody new, and I was insecure at the age of 12. So, it was done. We moved to Copperas Cove where I was enrolled in Copperas Cove Jr High for two years completing the 7th and 8th grade. I made a lot of friends, as well as memories in those two years. Despite all of the social hardship that I endured as a result of the moving, I was able to rise above it and eventually became comfortable with meeting new people again. I met Sydney Salquist towards the end of 7th grade. Sydney was more than my neighbor. She was more than my best friend. She was my soul mate. Sydney lived just right around the corner from where I lived. She made moving into a new neighborhood a lot easier. Sydney was one of those kids who were friends with everybody.
