Clubfoot describes a range of foot abnormalities usually present at birth, in which your baby's foot is twisted out of shape or position. In clubfoot, the tissues connecting the muscles to the tendons are shorter than usual.
I was anxiously packing my bag for what was to come. After growing up with this mutation, this is the next step to come.
I wheeled my suitcase up the ramp to the elevator. The elevator door shut leaving a silver reflection in my line of sight. My mother looked at me, knowing I was quite distressed for this event, and said “You’ll be fine, don’t worry.” I shrugged because she didn’t know what I was about to go through.
After being sat down in my waiting room, a doctor walked in.

My mother stands up and walks over to my bed. “Honey how are you feeling?” She asked. My mouth was dry and my legs felt like they were asleep. I look down to see my left leg in a pink cast. This was just the beginning.
This event has affected me in so many ways, it has basically made me the strong person that I am today. My first surgery was a couple weeks after I was born, but the surgery when I was seven was the real focus. This event has caused so many problems for me in my life. As in, my left calf, I have fewer muscles in it than my right calf, and of which, that causes it to have less power and to be smaller in size. The shoe sizes are also different, which is just a pain in the butt to buy shoes because you have to pay for two pairs of shoes, to only receive a pair of shoes in return.
Pain is a constant thing, and it probably will always be. But yet, I have a special urge to overcome it. I feel like with all of the odds, it has given me more of a motive to be above average. Things as in run multiple miles and lifting weights are an everyday thing to me now. If I had to look back, let’s say, six years from now, I would never expect me being able to acquire these goals that I’m setting for myself
