Night of the flood, June 2008, there were at least a dozen of us little scared second graders shaking with fear. The jolting thunder and lightning storm outside the window was putting us on the verge of tears. Emily and Leah Morrison’s birthday party in 2008 is a party that I will remember for the rest of my life.

Driving up the Morrison’s driveway had always been very exciting for me, not only because I was about to go stay the night at a birthday party, but because they were indeed my best friends. Upon arrival, I stepped out of my parent's car and there was a certain smell, almost farm like in the air. As the thunder would boom and the lightning would flash Morgan, one of the girls staying the night, said she saw someone outside the window. She was telling us that it was a man and he was creepily shaking his finger at us every time the lightning flashed. Morgan claimed that the man was getting closer each time she saw him. Of course, all of us girls started freaking out, some even sobbing, because they were outrageously scared. Some of the girls called their parents crying and begging to go home and a few of their parents actually showed up and took them home.

After we got over that whole scene, it was about time to go to bed. We all set up smack dab in the middle of the house, shivering with fright, crawling into the sleeping bags and waiting for the rain to die down. That is when another blast of thunder and lightning would occur. Finally sleep came upon us, and when we woke up the next morning, the rain had stopped and there was a clear sky.

Then came the famous Morrison breakfast, chocolate chip pancakes and bacon. The aroma throughout the entire house was delightful, the smell of bacon sizzling in the pan and melting chocolate in the fluffy pancakes. We got called into the kitchen by their mother and sat down awaiting our breakfast. The pancakes and bacon tasted better than they smelled.
