We as mental health counselors have to from a variety of approaches that will either benefit or hinder our client’s growth throughout our sections. I think that picking an approach can be something that is extremely hard because all approaches are good, and it is just a matter of preference. For me, personally, picking one of these theories comes from understanding how they will impact my future clients. A few years ago, I lived through an experience that was something very hard for me, my dad got diagnosed with End-Stage Kidney Disease which meant that he had to go into dialysis while waiting for a transplant. It emphasizes collaboration between the client and the therapist in order to have the client view themselves in a different light and feel empowered. People define meaning in the way they tell themselves stories about their lives. It can be useful for the clients I want to work with since it will allow them to reflect on their lives and find closure. Narrative therapy can be highly beneficial to promote resilience and resourcefulness. It can also be useful when working with culturally diverse populations. In fact, this is what we must do as a counselor in integrated approaches. Creating a tailored treatment plan to address the needs of clients can be highly beneficial. I think that overall, we are trying to make the clients resilient and sure in their own decisions as counselors and a mix of the aforementioned theories might be highly beneficial for the clients that I want to work for. I also think that using an integrated approach can better us as counselors, to continue learning and strive for a more culturally sensitive
