Nat Turner was an African American slave rebel. He was born October 2nd, 1800. He is from Southampton County in Virginia. His wife is named Cherry Turner and they have one child named Riddick Turner. Nat’s slave owner,Benjamin died in 1810 and then he became the slave of Benjamin’s brother, Samuel. Nat Turner became a very important person but was hated by others. He was a leader and a very strong one at that. “He was a slave rebel, deeply and passionately hated by the white people of Virginia who captured and hanged him in 1831.” He was sold and transported to many different slave owners due to his actions and other reasons the slave owners had. “Both his position as a slave and his position as a man who threatened the core values and institutional structures of the antebellum South have made him a difficult figure for historians to reconstruct.” The white men hated him so bad and especially when he started the rebellion and horses and stuff got stolen. He was a very religious man who believed that he should have the same rights as a white man. Nat Turner based his thoughts and opinions off of what he heard when he was younger about previous years. I would say that he was a very strong minded person and did not depend on anyone to make his decisions for him. He was a very smart man and some people even saw him as God or prophet. The 17th Century was very important to American history. Nat Turner made it even more important from his actions and death. “The following description of him was given, together with the announcement of a reward of $500 for his capture, by the Governor of Virginia, John Floyd: “Nat is between 30 and 35 years old, 5 feet 6 or 8 inches high, weighs between 150 and 160 pounds….” They also described the color of his skin and the scars he had on his head, arms, and maybe even his legs. The also told the type of clothing that he had on. Nat was not captured until the end of October. When he was asked did he regret anything, he said no but he started all of this off the anger of his wife and child being taken, so you would not expect anything different from him. Nat was convicted and sentenced to death but at that point he had already knew that he did what God told him to do and that he lead his people to do the right thing by rebelling and killing the families. Other families were scared but others started to fight back. He affected Virginia in a lot of ways that he did not knew was possible. On November 11, he was hanged until he died.
