Puritanism, theologically rooted in Calvinism, has an important place to evaluate the current religious, cultural, political, economic and social panorama of the United States. The first Puritans who came to America in 1620 settled in Plymouth, Massachusetts, in 1630s a second immigration wave began. This group established a community called Massachusetts Bay Colony in an area known today as Boston. This Puritan community which did not tolerate any dissenting religious or world views is the very center of The Scarlet Letter and Goodman Brown by Nathaniel Hawthorne. He was the son of a wealthy family in the town of Salem, United States. He grew up in a solid puritan tradition. An accident in his childhood led to a life isolated from the world on the roof of his uncle's house for many years. He has not survived the lifetime of being shy and afraid of living alone. The effect of these years lasted throughout his life and reflected on what he wrote. Nathaniel Hawthorne is known as a Vice-man and an artist. A moral icon to measure the ethical complexity of American life; he is a supporter of universal, time-resistant, fundamental moral values and a master literary critic. Hawthorne's inner and moral world is intertwined with the external and aesthetic worlds. It resides in both ethical and aesthetic worlds. While giving serious messages as a moral, he exhibits these messages gracefully as an artist. Hawthorne, who describes his novels as ' psychological Romans ', says he is digging tunnels deep into our common nature. In the circles of criticism, Hawthorne is regarded as a smart and broad-minded writer questioning the human condition and the American identity of the Puritan period. Goodman Brown (He's a good man, as we can tell.) one morning his wife kisses Faith and says I'm going. It's actually a story that is based on the first scene, which is entirely on icons. It's the forest where Goodman Brown goes. As he moves through the jungle, he sees that everything around him is getting dark and surrounded by a layer of mist. Take the devil out. And the devil shows him the ugliest parts of people he knows very well and will not stop loving. As a result, Goodman is very surprised. In a moment, it calmed down and Goodman returns to his home, as an enlightened. He doesn't talk to his wife again. He's offended people around him. Goodman Brown thinks the whole family is composed of good people. Even after seeing the facts, whose name is Faith and his wife who wears the pink ribbon as the symbol of innocence is no longer the same. He saw the dirt from the past and faced the past. Brown, who is a complete Christian and believes in the good of people, is now missing something. The people around him have turned into evil from goodness. At the same time, Goodman is a man who has succeeded in understanding the evil in people. He's like the man who tried to see the truth in the Garden of Eden. The man continues to wonder the truth. Once the curiosity is in the way and there will be no return. And in
