Communication The Northeast Native Americans didn’t have very many ways to communicate with others outside the tribe. Among the Northeastern Native Americans there were three languages: Algonquian, Iroquoian, and Siouan. Most of them spoke Algonquian and Iroquioan; only a small tribe who lived in the Great Lakes region spoke Siouan. Additionally, they used sign language to communicate to other tribes. They did not need to converse with other tribes often, mostly for trade. Unfortunately, these Native Americans did not have a writing system until the Europeans came. The Northeastern Native Americans had many things, but when it came to communication they did not have much of it.
