Storm over Texas is a historical novel, written by Joel Silbey, that highlights the issues that came with the annexation of Texas into the United States. One of the key themes of the book is the transition Americans had to make from a partisan to sectional party and how it foreshadowed the crisis of succession and war. As Silbey ends his book with, “Texas annexation turned out to be another sudden, resounding fire bell in the night, one that rang longer and louder, and ultimately with more effect, than any that had preceded it” (181), he sums up perfectly how the Annexation of Texas left the United States, not so united. Joel Silbey’s
Texas has seen many changes since the first constitution of Coahuila y Tejas was drafted in 1827. During this time Texas was still a part of Mexico, as it sought it's independence from Spain in 1821. The first constitution was built for a unicameral congress which consisted of 12 deputies. Texas was at that time considered a buffer for Mexico against many of the Native American tribes.

The two states of California and Texas have many differences, ranging from climate to cost of living to cultural characteristics. Comparing these two states can provide insight into the various features of each and how they shape the places we live. This essay will focus on three main topics: climate differences between California and Texas, cost of living in California and Texas, and cultural characteristics of California and Texas. The climate of California and Texas are quite different from one another, as observed by R Khalidi and J Ramsey in their 2021 study, Environmental Education Research.
New Orleans was mainly the Confederacy. To being, the South’s was the main and the largest city; it considerable industry that sold ironclads. The more important is it controlled the Mississippi River from the Gulf of Mexico. It was based of Waterfield Scott’s Anaconda plan. This was suffocating the south.
New Orleans, a flourishing city sitting on the Gulf coast. The city thrived with life. But, on the morning of August 29th,2005 everything changed. Hurricane Katrina made landfall on the gulf coast.
A stunning example of our modern day setback is hurricane Katrina. In August of 2005, humanity watched in shock as - every warning and study notwithstanding - each system that might have saved New Orleans turned futile. Inland waterways collapsed, sending a torrential of floodwater into the city. This destroyed communications channels crippling rescue processes. Roads were impassable and transportation that was expected to evacuate tens of thousands never arrived.

Can you believe it? We’re abandoning Louisiana; but should we? Recently, the state of Louisiana has endured negligence from the United States and its people. Personally, it is sad to see that one of our conjoined states is being neglected. This is all because of the natural disasters that have been targeting the poor state.
Due to the recent events, the groups of society have been majorly affected. The flood that happened in South Carolina, not only destroy many homes and family but also changed many of the social group and the socialization by people. Even though the flood affected many people, I personally did not get affected. Where I was at the time did not get hit by the storm, only lost power for an hour or so. The worst that happened was not having water to drink, till it is boiled.
The Galveston hurricane occurred in 1900, this was the 2nd most economically effective hurricane in the history of United States hurricanes, with a category 4 ranking, 8,000 casualties, and 3,600 buildings being destroyed it is obvious this would be costly to any city, especially that this time was the peak of Galveston's economy, until the Galveston hurricane. Unfortunately for them this was also one of the first hurricanes in the city so they were unprepared. This hurricane left 10,000 people homeless and it is not the weatherman to blame because people were warned but most ignored. It is reasonable that people did not leave because Galveston was a booming city and there have been hurricanes near that fatal before then or even in that region.
California has one of the most severe wildland fire problems in the world. Population, vegetation, topography, and climate all play key roles in the probability of a wildfire occurring. In other words, it’s not a matter of “if” a wildfire will occur, but it’s a matter of “when.” In California, more and more people are choosing to live in communities near wildlands. These wildlands are composed of highly flammable vegetation which can be explosive.
