The Nature Deficit Disorder can be described as a phrase coined in 2005 by Richarch Louv in his book titled the Last child in the woods. According to the Louv in the modern world children spend less time outdoors, and this has resulted in a wide range of behavioral problems. Despite Louv’s disorder not being recognized in existing mental health disorder manuals such as DSM-S as well as ICD-10, compiled and reviewed evidence acquired in 2009 supports the existence of the Nature Deficit Disorder particularly among children.
Effects of Lack of Nature Time
According to Richard Louv, the disorder does not exist as a medical diagnosis rather it serves as a description of the costs of human alienation thus, from nature. He claims that some of the primary reasons why children become alienated from the natural world, especially at a young age include lure of the screen, parental fears inclusive of presence of restrictions in access natural areas (Louv, 2008).
