Title Every good work of literature encompasses the battle between the light and darkness of humanity and the high cost of prevailing goodness in the world. Many bad things happen in our world, but at the same time, there is always good to celebrate. According to novelist Stephen King, this goodness must always prevail at a high cost. There are many stories that show these signs, including Night by Elie Wiesel, Minority Report, Hotel Rwanda, “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson, and “The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas” by Ursula K. Le Guin. These three qualities of humanity truly turn a regular story into a good work of literature. Most stories touch upon the nature of goodness in the world, and that is what makes a good story stand out. Although there may be wars and bad people around us, there is always a lighter side. In the movie Hotel Rwanda, the members of the Tutsi Rwandan tribe were murdered because of their past unfair ways during their time in the government. In Night, Jews and other certain groups of people were brutally killed and tortured during the Holocaust. Stereotypes regulated the way people thought about the Tutsi tribe and the Jews. Most Tutsis were killed because their identification papers simply said they were Tutsi, regardless of how much they follow Tutsi ways. They could be completely non religious and still be labeled as a Tutsi and be killed. This was similar to the Holocaust. Whether you were an extreme Jew or you had a mother who was only half-jewish, you were targeted during this time. Both of these stories were based on real events that happened, and that shows that the world truly is horrible to some people.
