We live in a society where humans are born cruel. We see hate and tragedy on a daily basis, which has caused us to become numb to it. In the novel Night by Eliezer Weisel, we follow the experiences of himself during the holocaust. In his story we see many examples of human cruelty, but not all from the people we would expect. While not all humans are evil; a majority of people do not learn from mistakes, ”different” people are treated differently, and humans show their true colours in distress.

Stigma towards different groups of people is still an issue to this day. “Lying down was not an option, nor could we all sit down. We decided to take turns sitting. There was little air” (Elie Pg.23 Night). The jewish people were forced to live in awful conditions and were seen as worthless. Nazis used the jewish people during the Holocaust to conduct extremely inhumane medical studies. The Chinese government has committed a series of ongoing human rights abuses against Uyghurs and other ethnic and religious minorities in Xinjiang that is often characterized as genocide. Even in our own country this is an issue with Indigenous people's residential schools. How can this still be happening with our past and when will we learn to stop this from continuing? It is clearly a problem with humanity, how can we continue to commit awful acts towards different groups of people around the world without change?
