Imagery is one of the crafts that is very well used. I think that as a reader and our culture always view fire as a bad thing because it have the power to destroy a lot on its path such as we see here in the Desert when we have wildlife fires but ice has the opposite effect. It is supposed to bring peace and beauty. At Christmas, many around the world eagerly await snow to fully bring the season of the joy. I think the same is said in this story.
The poem I will be analyzing will be “Uncoiling” by Pat Mora. The theme the author is portraying is the personification of a tornado . It has a dark/fearful/grim tone as she describes the storm that is accruing. The author is using similes, and personification to convey the theme. The ice in this case represented the colder they were, the closer to death the person became. The snow that represented hatred did not only surround him, it became a part of him. But after he felt that coldness, it was described as “a small red flame” and coupled with the poem, “Fire and Ice”, where fire represents desire. The flame in this case represented the want to die. With death quite literally getting closer by the second.
The last two stanza’s in the poem turns into an evil tone. The line where it reads “he was my uncle, the one who lived in the half-finished basement, and he took me by the hair” the basement in the stanza is the underworld in
The most significant symbol in “night” is the night in many cultures is a symbol of darkness a world without a god. In many cultures, people were not allowed to go out since it was believed that it was a place meant for the death and not for the living. During the day is where the cycle of life takes places and life grows and begins. During the night is a different situation because everything that may need the sun closes to its core making it look as if it were sad or as if it didn 't have a life anymore. The night plays a big role in this poem since it the main point why everything seems so lifeless.
Donald Hall's "Without" explains to the reader's the painful process that he had to go through losing his wife to leukemia. From the way Hall spoke about his wife in the book she seemed like she was very charming and someone that meant the world to him. They both had many things in common but one of the things that they both admired was writing poetry. Topic Sentence 1… Colonel Freeleigh, from “Calling Mexico,” is a moribund man who wants to refresh the days of his healthy and happy life. Colonel Freeleigh is in a lonely place in Illinois, next to a lake, and is not allowed to get excited because of some medical reasons. However, Freeleigh just can’t bear living in a confined area for over ten years and wants to feel and sense the beautiful world, that he is missing, especially the bustling and ever-growing, Mexico City.
