The Nazi Olympics of 1936 The Olympic Games are a very popular event in the world that occurs every two years with the Summer Olympics one year and the Winter Olympics two years later. The Games are held in a different city around the world every two years. In the Olympics, individual athletes compete for medals. The country with the most medal winners wins. In 1936, the Olympics were held in Berlin. The 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin were used as a way of propaganda for the “new Germany”, the Games showed racism against foreign competitors, and the Games had a lasting effect on the future. The Olympic Games were used as propaganda to show off the “new Germany”, Nazi Germany. The main idea of using the Games as propaganda was to bring an image to the world of a new, strong, and united Germany (“Nazi Olympics”). But before and during the Games, the Germans had big plans for after the Games (Bachrach 107-109). After the Games, the Germans joined the Axis forces and invaded countries of western Europe (Bachrach 111). The invasions and expansion of Germany led to the Holocaust and WWII. Between 1939 and 1945, up to six million Jews were killed in all of Europe (Bachrach 112). The Germans failed in their big plans but did affect the world and history in a major way.
