The monologue I chose to perform is from the movie You, Me, and Dupree, by Michael Lesieur and it is delivered by the character Randolph Dupree. Prior to the point of the movie the monologue is given, Dupree is fired from his job and loses his house due to taking five days off to attending Carl’s (his best friend) wedding as the best man. Carl welcomes him to stay at his house for a few days. During one of those days, Carl is called into work the morning he is supposed to give a career day speech to his wife’s elementary school classroom.
For example, women felt as though they did not have enough of a voice, which led to some trying to fight for their rights, including Abigail Adams, who unfortunately was one of the very few female political writers of the time. She states that men are only “proclaiming peace and goodwill to men” and are retaining “absolute power over Wives.” Men, like John Adams, only mock in return, and claim that men should be the only ones in power, creating greater tensions between both women and men. In addition to the greater tensions of women, there are greater tensions between races that develop more too due to the increase in slavery. This eventually leads to slaves petitioning the government in order for them to fight for their rights.
In our world, there is power everywhere you look from schools, into classrooms, at restaurants, and even at home. There are many forms of power like a coach, teacher, or president but all show power in our society
Power has a negative effect on those who are in power. It has a negative effect, because it causes unnecessary harm. For example, many leaders throughout history have used their power to demonstrate absolute control. In Antigone, Creon used his power in a negative way.
But first what is Power? When researching Power words such as authority, control, direct, command and influence all appear. These words all support the following statement “Power is the ability to influence and control the behaviour of others.” The problem with power is that it often leads to those in power abusing it. As Lord Acton famously quoted “Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.”
Theme Essay Courage is never giving up, especially before you try. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee the author shows courage in numerous ways. The characters learn that sometimes even though you know you might fail at something you still try to do your best. I agree with the theme courage is never giving up, especially before you try, and the characters of Mrs.Dubose and Mr. Underwood exemplify this theme.
"You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along. "- Eleanor Roosevelt.
Writing Assignment Freak the Mighty The quote I chose was “ No one stays like they are. Everybody is always changing”. I agree with this quote because I see people changing all the time.
Women are not weak or incapable and they can get things done without a man helping them. Sojourner Truth made a powerful statement by showing her muscles because she was living proof that women are able to perform the same tasks as men. I loved when she said, “what’s intellect got to do with women’s rights or black folks’ rights?” (p. 1). A person does not have to be intelligent to receive their basic human rights.
Everyone, at one point in their lives has wanted power more than anything. Those who do get it have to make the decision whether they want to use it for good or evil. Power can turn a person into something they never dreamed they would become because it starts to take over their lives and people do not know what to do with so much power. There are many examples of power in the play Macbeth and every person that got it used it in very different ways. This caused many changes in people from turning from good to evil or evil to good.
According to Melissa Balmain in “Bouncing Back,” two people who faced adversity with resilience are Howie Truong and Celeste Peterson. Although they have different stories they both went through their own trials. Howie Truong’s wife was killed after an accident when they had tried to flee Vietnam postwar; after Truong’s wife was found ashore he spent thirty-four years wondering what had happened to his son. Truong losing his wife and son made him feel guilty, the guilt made Truong drink away his problems every night by drinking himself to sleep. Truong realized that he had a role in his family and that he needed to stop drinking.
“He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life.” As said by Muhammad Ali, a professional American boxer and activist. Muhammad Ali needed courage to box just like characters from To Kill a Mockingbird By: Harper Lee. In To Kill a Mockingbird courage is shown by Jem, Scout, and Dill.
"Character is what you are in the dark." -Dwight Lyman Moody. I believe that this quote is saying that when everyone is looking at a character or the attention is on them it’s easy to be the heroic good guy, but it takes real strength to do the right thing when no one is looking, even if the right thing to do isn’t easy or sometimes safe. For the story and character, I’m using in this essay, I am going to have to say I disagree with the quote.
However, power can also be very dangerous if it is abused. Power can make you become selfish and unaware of who and what you may be destroying in your path to
My journey to becoming computer literate began with my gran at a very young age. My gran was a computer fanatic and played various games.
