From 1450 to 1750, the outsourcing of labor through the use of slavery was a widespread practice in many societies and economies around the world. European states and their colonies in the Americas, Africa, and Asia relied heavily on the forced labor of enslaved people to produce goods for export and to build and maintain their colonies. The Atlantic slave trade, which began in the 16th century, brought millions of enslaved Africans to the Americas to work on plantations producing crops like sugar, tobacco, and cotton.

The use of enslaved labor had a profound impact on societies and economies during this period. For enslaved people, it meant a life of forced labor, abuse, and dehumanization. Families were separated, and individuals were stripped …show more content…
