The Mongolians Astonishing Legacy “Pax Mongolia” means Mongol peace, many people think that this did not exist and that the Mongols were nothing but savage killers, but in reality the Mongols positive impact on the world today significantly outweighs that of the negative. The Mongols started out as a disorganized nomadic tribe until a man called Genghis Khan organized them into the first Mongol Empire in 1206 (Bawden). The Mongols, led by Genghis Khan, began to conquer more and more land and eventually rose to conquer Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe (Krajik) . However they are wrong because although bloody battles did occur the Mongols did, in fact, help advance warfare with some of their war inventions that are still used today. One Mongol invention that has aided the world in war today was the first version of a hand grenade. The Mongols, using gunpowder, developed a more primitive version of a hand grenade that paved the way for modern grenades to be created. Grenades have been used in many battles, and won wars. The protection that grenades have provided today proves the people that don't believe in the Mongols' positive influence wrong, because grenades have aided the world today and have saved lives. Along with hand grenades the Mongols helped alter the gunpowder formula to yield more explosive force and with this, guns and cannons were developed (Matteucci). Since they were created, guns have been used in every major battle and have been significantly useful today. Outside of weaponry the Mongols also perfected the use of psychological warfare against their enemies. Psychological warfare is the process of using propaganda and intimidation to make an enemy surrender, sometimes without using physical force. This process is still used today and it has prevented many battles from taking place that could have had high casualties (New World Encyclopedia).
