Humans have a history of conquering and colonizing each other, especially with Western civilizations being particularly successful, the whole world has been influenced by those Western culture, and mostly influenced by American culture, which we call it Americanization. My hometown, China is now also undergoing Americanization both positively and negatively from different ways. In this essay, I will be more focusing on the negative impacts rather than the positive ones, which are happening in China recently, on three specific topics: Entertainment, Food and Economy.

Here, let’s talk about social media network first. According to the data shown of the leading social networks worldwide as of April 2016 (statista.com), Facebook takes the lead, and it is the first social network to surpass 1 billion monthly active users. Then comes with the WhatsApp as the second popular, and Facebook Messenger comes the third. Among the 1 billion users on Facebook, 63.5 million of them are Chinese. All these leading social networks are available in multiple languages, which in my opinion, is exactly the reason that so many Chinese are using it as well. Well, there is nothing bad on this point of Americanization, because what social media network mostly does is to provide a platform for people to communicate with each other. Look around, how many people are using Apple products: iPhone, iPad and Mac. Probably most of them. Apple is more commonly seen now, but what is the specific number for the growth. Occasionally, I saw an article entitled as “Apple sells more iPhones in China than U.S. for the first time”. “Total revenues from greater China surged 71%to 16.8 billion as the public gave expensive gifts to friends and relatives. Since Apple has such a great market in China, it starts to build factories in Shenzhen, China. In fact, employees in the factories are paid as little as $1.12 an hour. The extreme low cost of labor in China might be another reason Apple Company is so interested in Chinese market. The entry-level salary of just $180 per month is so low that it would take more than two months salary to pay for the cheapest iPad. Apple, the world’s most valuable technology company, has faced claims that their contractors are forcing staff to do overtime involuntarily and employing underage workers at the factory.
