With open sea's and whirling winds, one could taste adventure in the air, or rather the profits. A land of gold and prosperity were promised to those brave few who dare travel into the newly discovered world. Many answered the call of promised riches leaping into this untraveled land. However they know not the disease and blood that lie ahead when no claim to this land be give to the native population. Imperialism has lead to the destruction of culture and people, torn down empires and human decency is thrown to the wind. Human greed has caused tremendous social problems threw out the world that still effect us today. As Europe began to explore the New World they found it necessary to build settlements, as they couldn't return home and come back the next day. Before the colonies really took off explorers and settlers encountered the native population almost immediately. They found people with their own culture and functioning government, such as the Aztecs. As Cortès explored the empire he wrote of their great city and it's economy. However upon realizing they worshiped under a different religion, or though his view a false religion, his description abruptly changed. Using religion as a tool and an explanation of his actions Cortès attacked the Aztec Empire. Cortès and Europe as a whole tore apart the largest Empires on the new continent hiding behind god, though I doubt they would have done any differently if the Aztecs happened to have the same beliefs. Europe was crushing under it's own weight and need the land and resources to support their growing population.
