Andrei Lankov claims, “To not have your suffering recognized is an almost unbearable form of violence”(Lankov).It is very harmful for someone to repress their feelings because they just suffer more. He believed that even if someone isn’t being physically hurt and abused, they are still being harmed in an unnecessary way. They are bottling up their feelings which then translates to them having an inappropriate way. According to the article “Stop Child Abuse and Neglection” it expresses, “Child neglect is defined as act of omission or Failure to meet the basic needs of child” (“Stop Child Abuse and Neglection” 2022). Juliet and Melinda similarly suffer from this emotional neglect because their parents don’t find the time to listen to them. Lord Capulet and Mrs.Sordino just care about what they want and never what their children want. Lord Capulet is under the impression that Juliet is just trying to be unruly since she didn’t listen to his demands. He thinks she is being ungrateful but she just doesn't want to marry someone she doesn’t love. This situation makes Juliet ignore her father’s wishes and emotions because he never listens to her. Melinda goes through a similar situation with her mother because Mrs.Sordino doesn’t listen to her daughter when she tries to explain herself.; she just moves on with life. Melinda is struggling and Mrs.Sordino will only look at what Melinda is doing incorrectly. For the same reason as Juliet, Melinda doesn’t listen to her mother because Mrs.Sordino doesn’t listen to her. Alternatively even though they both suffer from this negative relationship with their parents, their parents act that way for different reasons. Lord Capulet acts this way because he believes she is errant and doesn’t care what he thinks but Juliet acts that particular way because he won’t listen to how she feels. Since he won’t treat her with respect she won’t listen, which creates a toxic cycle. Mrs.Sordino won’t listen to how Melinda feels because she is taking the tough love approach and she thinks that Melinda is seeking attention. Melinda wants to be an upstanding child, but since her mother doesn’t listen to her; Melinda doesn’t listen to her mother. Negative parent child relationships and emotional neglect are situations that many families deal with. When children aren’t allowed to talk about how they are feeling or what is bothering them,
