William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is a sixteenth century play that illustrates the troubling relationships between characters. The play also characterizes a variety of deeply flawed individuals set against the backdrop of the Montague and Capulet feud. One of those individuals is Lord Capulet, a father figure who wants to have full control over the decision of his family members. Lord Capulet’s desire for control and selfish nature leads to the destruction of his family. Lord Capulet wants to have full control of Juliet and all of the decisions that are made in her life which leads to her death. This is showing more of his strict and controlling side because this is a very strict thing to say to your own daughter who lives with you. This is showing how Capulet wants full control over Juliet and if she doesn’t agree with him and the decisions that he is making for her then she won’t be able to come home. When Juliet disagrees with her father and doesn't want to marry Paris, Capulet loses one's mind and says “But fertile you fine joints’ gainst Thursday next to go with Paris to Saint Peter’s Church, or I will drag thee on a hurdle thither” (3.5.155) Capulet is fed up with Juliet and is willing to do anything in his power to get Juliet to the church if that means that he has to drag her there. Capulet doesn’t care that Juliet doesn’t agree with this decision even though she is the one marrying Paris. He won’t let her have a say and tell him how she feels about the marriage. Capulet thinks that he needs to have control but also wants to have full control because he is the father of Juliet but he also thinks that he is the most important in the family. He thinks that tere marriage will benefit him because he will be the one that will get the moneyfrom the wedding that Juliet gets. When Juliet finally agrees to marry Paris, Capulet wants the wedding to happen as soon as possible. He decides that it is going to happen earlier than it was planned for. He says “Send for the country. Go tell him of this. I’ll have this knot knit up tomorrow morning”( 4.2.25). Capulet is making the wedding earlier than it was supposed to be because he wanted Juliet to be married to Paris as soon as possible. He wants Juliet to marry Paris because Paris has a lot of money and Capulet wants all of the money that he can get from their wedding. He doesn’t care if Juliet is happy or not all he wants is something for himself and for him to feel pleasure. Capulet thinks that if Juliet marries Paris then she won’t be stubborn and he will be happy now that she married Paris. Capulet says “Well , I will walk myself to Country Paris, to prepare him up against tomorrow. My heart is wondrous light since this same wayward girl is so reclaimed”(4.2.46). He is so excited and over joyed that he decides to go help Paris get ready for the big day tomorrow.
