A disease and some new political ideas affected a government which had been dominating for a thousand years. During the era of the Roman empire there were great strides in the aspect of representing the people, due to the Romans having a democratic government. With the fall of Rome in 476 A.D. a new government was established, feudalism. During this thousand year period the feudal system was able to thrive due to the suppression of the common people and the Kings using the lower class as laborers. Although this lasted for a thousand years, democratic ideas began to spark due to the change in government. New political ideas, along with the outbreak of the black death, caused England to shift government from a feudalistic to a democratic. This shift further demonstrated new opportunities for the common people. The signing of the Magna Carta and Habeas Corpus was a main cause for a democratic government overtaking a feudalistic government. Due to the major amounts of deaths, there were many shortages of laborers which led to workers being able to demand more in exchange for labor. Common people being able to ask for higher wages got rid of class. Now that people are earning more, there is no lower class because they are making a lot more money than they used to, also giving them a sense of power because they can demand however much they want for work due to the lack of laborers. With this sudden gain in power, the peasants were able to feel a sense of democracy. In contrast to feudalism, democracy is based on the belief that people should have power and freedom, and that is exactly what they began to get.
