The tone of Briana Payton’s rhetoric is condescending, demeaning, and arrogant; her ad hominem remarks do little harm to Tal Fortgang and rather serve only to discredit her own contentions. Payton sounds like an angry parent reprimanding an unruly child, “Is that clear? You. Are. Privileged.
Rhetorical Appeals in the Wounded Warrior Project Advertisements The Wounded Warrior Project recruits the aid of the American public to honor and assist injured veterans of the United States armed forces. Through financial aid, the non-profit organization provides programs for the physical and mental injuries of soldiers with little or no cost to the warriors. The organization also offers support services for the warrior’s family (www.woundedwarriorproject.org). Through advertisements, the Wounded Warrior Project hopes to gain the public’s aid to finance the organization’s programs.
Diction when combined with repetition can be a powerful thing. The use of repetition can be found in this nationalistic statement that is meant to instill the feeling of unity and a sense of comradery in the reader towards these grievance-groups/factions. “And this way to uplift satisfied the grievance-group “experts” because it laid the ground for their sovereignty and permanency: You negotiated with us. You funded us. You shared power, at least a bit of it, with us” (Steele 457).
In his 2011 article “The Shame of College Sports”, Taylor Branch claims college sports are corrupt because college athletes are not paid. Through the use of ethos, logos, and an accusatory tone in the article “Should College Athletes be Paid? Why, They Already Are” written for Sports Illustrated in 2014, Seth Davis effectively argues why Taylor Branch’s claim is incorrect. Davis’ use of ethos addresses Branch’s credibility. Through his use of logos, Davis effectively points out why Branch’s argument is illogical.
In this article, the author explains why sports are very dangerous but also very beneficial. He starts off with his own personal stories and gets into describing how American football is seen as remarkably dangerous, and he includes evidence such as the violence the sport brings. He especially talks about the risks of brain damage that comes with the sport, including when “group of past players...sued the NFL for not properly informing players about the risks of brain damage during their careers”.
In the novel the Running Man the author, Michael Bauer, captures the experiences of a marginalised character, Tom Leyton. The main characters of this novel are Joseph and Tom Leyton. Tom was shut out from society because of his illness. The author represents this through isolation, marginalisation and experiences of torment in society.
In the essay titled “Police Brutality”, Danna Hernandez uses rhetorical devices to declare that police brutality is dreadful. She utilizes anecdotes to support her claim, pathos to persuade the audience to agree with her argument by producing an emotional response, and imagery to illustrate her hardships caused by police brutality. Danna does this in order to make the general public realize that police brutality is a significant issue that should not be treated as a trend. Danna Hernandez uses anecdote to support her argument. The vast majority of the essay is an anecdote that tells of the tragic death of her son due to unjustified gun usage by a police officer(which constitutes as police brutality) and the emotional consequences that followed.
I Have a Dream’s Rhetoric A momentous day in history is exalted by the enthralling speech and resonating imagery of a man whom wanted to make a difference. Just over 100 years after the Emancipation Proclamation was implemented, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered a very riveting speech to over 250,000 Americans during the March on Washington, the nation’s largest demonstration of peaceful protest. With peace typically comes logic of which King very much emanated from his speech. With powerful rhetoric, King captivated an entire crowd and subsequently the entire nation with emphasizing while being freed from the travesty that was slavery people of color are still placed in chains by society’s gruesome yet commonplace demarcations.
A controversial topic currently circulating throughout the media and society, is professional athletes kneeling during the National Anthem. In my opinion, this is a completely useless, unnecessary action done just for attention. The theory behind the action is supposed to represent unity. Unity is not achieved by causing controversy, but it’s achieved by coming together and supporting each other when times get tough.

But not a lot of people knew about this until, social media came into play with our society. Furthermore, in the news article “A timeline of Colin Kaepernick’s national anthem protest and the NFL players who joined him”
The most challenging aspect of this paper is I still don't really understand what the purpose and use of writing such a paper is. I know how to break it down into specific appeals such as ethos and logos, but I struggled in using this to create an effective argument. Because of this I feel as though I created to many blunt statements proving little to no evidence to support any of my
For many years has football has been considered the utmost dangerous sport in high school, but recently many new studies have been made to prove the exact opposite. High school football gives money to the school and improves the school. “During a medal ceremony at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, two African-American track athletes made what would become one of the most famous political protests” (Araki, Zachary). These protest show that the legal system is unfair to African American citizens. The only way to stop these is to protest what is wrong in America and how it can be fixed. Kneeling during the national anthem is just another way to protest that the justice system is wrong. Not only does it show the wrongs but it raises awareness about the topic.
