Liberty Mutual creates an ad to persuade viewers to switch to their insurance. The first rhetoric technique used is pathos when Liberty Mutual says, “You totaled your brand new car. Nobody’s hurt, but there will still be pain.” People have either been in an accident and understand the emotions involved, or they have not and worry about what will happen in an accident. Speeches are used to commemorate points of history, and inform the general public of the product of their history but what makes a speech so impacting on it’s audience? Rhetorical devices give speeches and works of literature a way that can convey feelings or ideas to a viewer. When addressing during times of war or chaos, people such as Ronald Reagan, Abraham Lincoln, and Winston Churchill used these terms to better connect with their audience. Referring to Michael Mateas’ article, I argue that Gerty is an example of “behavioral interactionist AI” which its different with HAL, Gerty focuses with embodied agents interacting in a physical or virtual world. HAL is an example of “symbolist, classical AI”, which focuses with symbolic manipulation and problem solving. Thus both of these two AL has abilities to accomplish many specific capabilities, such as playing chess, communicate with people, etc. However, HAL its illustrates goal-driven behavior, which leads him to express inner conflicts and tells complicated lies that creates strong contrast with Gerty; Gerty is more emotional about Sam but not trying to achieve his goal. HAL accurately represents the vision of classic AI, but Gerty
Quote: “The more I remembered the killings, the beatings, and intimidations, the more I worried what might possibly happen to me or my family if I joined the NAACP. But I knew I was going to join, anyway” (Ch. 20, pg. 269). This passage is significant because it demonstrates the substantial and terrifying risks taken by those who chose to join the early Civil Rights Movement in the south. On October 15th, 2016 Austin Community College’s Department of History and the Diversion of Social and Behavioral Sciences created a history symposium. This symposium consisted of 2 speakers, Theresa Jach and Kemp Dixon, who spoke about convict leasing and the law east of the Pecos. As time progressed, Theresa informs us of the multitude of punishments that slaves had
"Common Sense" was one of the most important pieces of literature in early America, because it was extremely influential to many people throughout all of American colonies. The colonist came to America to escape religious boundaries. They wanted to be able to worship God freely. Thomas Paine uses this to his advantage by using scriptural quotes, pathos, to convince his audience that it is common sense for the colonists to break completely with Great Britain. He says that "a monarchy is terrible, and to have a king is not only an unsuccessful way to rule a nation, but it is also a sin."

Past leaders such as Andrew Jackson, Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, and Marc Antony are evidence that society does not reward morality and good character in leadership. Society is drawn to leaders that have good rhetoric, propaganda, and charismatic personalities, and society supports them despite their immorality. Society is concerned about stability more than the morality of their leaders and will support immoral leaders in times of crisis to provide stability. In history there have been multiple leaders that have used rhetoric, propaganda and charismatic personalities to gain power, despite their morals.

For this rhetorical analysis essay I decided to reflect upon the somewhat recent documentary titled “The Social Dilemma”. From gen-zians to baby boomers, this film was dedicated to educating people on the impact of social media on today’s society as we have entered a tech-frenzy world. Just like many other people, I wanted to see what the craze was about when this film was produced back in 2020. From interviews with former tech company employees to societal examples, Jeff Orlowski used various rhetorical strategies to convey an important message within his world-famous film. Growing up during a time where social media was just developing and kids weren’t glued to their iPad’s, I have very clearly noticed the effects social media has had on,
In her essay, “I Had a Nice Time with you Tonight, on the app,” Jenna Wortham believes that social media apps are a helpful way to connect. Wortham swears by apps and is grateful that she can communicate with her boyfriend who is three thousand miles away.
