In the spring of 2014 the tenth grade class of Small-Town Rose Valley, Saskatchewan was presented with the opportunity to travel to Hamilton, Ontario - something few of us had ever had the chance of doing. Getting accepted into The Society for Educational Visits and Exchanges in Canada, SEVEC for short, meant that we would be participating in a student exchange program and jaunting to visit and experience the lives of people in Hamilton, and that people from Hamilton would get to do the same in Saskatchewan.

Our first day in Hamilton was overwhelming regarding the size of the city, however it was a lot of fun. We travelled to see Niagara Falls, which is arguably one of the top tourist attractions in Canada. Dubbed “The Honeymoon Capital of the World”, I can see how a place like The Falls would be a popular place to visit for newlyweds considering the beauty and prosperity of the place. Niagara Falls was a great way to start my experience in Eastern Canada and I was proud to be able to say that it was a part of my country.

Having the opportunity to observe Canada and meet new people is something I will never be able to justify. I learnt new things about myself as well as my country, but most significantly I made a lot of new friends. Although we were from opposite sides of Canada, we were still able to find numerous things in common whether it was the Riders beating the TiCats in the Grey Cup, or the fact that out if all the people in Canada we were lucky enough to be matched with each other.
