Dazed and Confused is a movie that takes place in Texas during the mid 70’s. It shows the life of a typical teenager during this time as some are entering their last year trapped in high school or some entering their first. Their morals and ways of thinking differ to now a day severely, but their actions then vs now show some similar characteristics. The time period that the movie takes place in has major differences than today’s society. For example, a fourteen year old kid was able to walk into a liquor store and purchase alcohol like it was nothing.
In the film Glory directed by Edward Zwick, the Civil War is portrayed through the eyes of the Fifty-fourth Massachusetts regiment, which was composed of African American men fighting against the Confederates for freedom. The commander of this regiment, Robert Shaw, was born into an abolitionist family and accepted the role of the first all-black regiment in the Northeast, despite the potential threats of the South. The movie focuses on four black soldiers and their experiences during the war as well as their relationships with their fellow soldiers and commanders, including Shaw. The movie Carved in Silence was a very provoking and eye opening documentary for me. It depicted the experience of the Chinese immigrants of Angel Island very well through the narration and the dramatic recreation. As an immigrant, the opening scene and the many stories told evoked many memories and reflections of my family 's journey and aspirations. The stories and descriptions in this documentary were very surreal because they were too hard to believe.

True Grit, directed by Joel and Ethan Coen, is a western that follows the journey of three people, with different motivations, searching for a well known murderer in the American Old West. One film that takes the form of a comedy, in the zombie subgenre, is Shaun of the Dead, directed by Edgar Wright, which shows a man and his friends and family attempt to survive a zombie outbreak in London. Mattie Ross, portrayed by Hailee Steinfeld in the Coen brother’s True Grit, and Shaun, portrayed by Simon Pegg in Edgar Wright’s Shaun of the Dead, are both unlikely protagonists because they defy their respective genre’s conventions as heroes even though their motivations remain stereotypical.
O Brother Where Art Thou? is a film that will take you on a perilous journey with Ulysses Everett McGill and his simpleminded cohorts. This film may be set amidst the early 1930’s Great Depression era, but it still has a Homer’s Odyssey feel to it. In order to raise awareness of the staggering injustices, oppression and mass poverty that plague many Indian informal settlements (referred to as slum), Katherine Boo’s novel, Behind the Beautiful Forevers, unveils stories of typical life in a Mumbai slum. There are discussions on topics surrounding gender relations, environmental issues, corruption, religion, and class hierarchies, as well as demonstrating India’s level of socioeconomic development. These themes are elaborated on through the development of the main characters and expressed further through the supporting roles and their dialogue and endeavors.
The movie “Sleepers” is about four young boys between the ages 13-14 who commit a serious crime by accident. In this paper I will argue why the boys should be dealt with under the Restorative Justice System, and not under the Retributive Justice System. I will also talk about how they would be dealt with under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA). The four boys are clearly very upset with themselves because they let what they thought would be just a fun prank turn into a violent crime.
