At one time in life you have witnessed the horror of someone littering. If not, then I am sure that you have littered yourself. During this essay a man describes his experience of cleaning up the streets of Miami and ridding them of some litterbugs. In this essay, “A Couple of Really Neat Guys,” Dave Barry uses hyperbole and clever wordplay to reveal the universal truth about littering. To reveal the rudeness of littering, Barry uses hyperbole to get his point across.
Oceans are peaceful, majestic, and filled with amazing and vibrant color. A lot of the prostown beauty in oceans can be credited to coral reefs. Lately though, natural coral reefs have been dying for various reasons, and some people believe that artificial reefs can help not only the natural reefs, but other surrounding ecosystems in their environment. Various articles use rhetorical techniques in hopes of enhancing their articles about whether or not artificial reefs are helping or harming the oceans. The first article, “Concern Lingers on Success of Artificial Reefs”, was written by Charles Q. Choi, and for Live Science, looks at both the pro and con side of artificial reefs.
Before I would just throw in numbers and statements without setting the context and I would often end the paragraph without an acceptable amount of discussion. I also did not know how to state the evidence while giving credit where its due. In my current draft of “Seattle Versus the Homeless”, i use words such as “according to,” and “based off of,” and give credit where it is do. I still have a lot of room to grow in this topic, but I have certainly improved since the beginning of this quarter. In This in-class essay, we had to find a news topic that was interesting to us and write about it.

Review of Literature Environmental issues began to be discussed and debated only towards the end of the 20th century. Since then significant amount of literature has been penned down raising awareness about issues of pollution, deforestation, animal rights and several others however it has failed to result in major changes, ideas or even actions to save the environment. Several species of animals have become extinct; pollution level is at an all-time high, global warming is leading to severe climate changes all across the globe but these problems do not seem to alarm the decision makers. Leydier & Martin (2013) also states that, “despite the increasing expression of concern in political and media debates about issues such as climate change, pollution and threats to biodiversity, “political ecology” (operating at the confluence of scientific developments, political engagement and ethical debates) is still trying to find its bearings” (p.7). It is quite evident that environmental issues are not treated in equivalence to political, economic, social or even religious issues.
