Jesus. Who was Jesus? A historical figure, a teacher, a prophet, a godly man? Many have questioned the different qualities of Jesus whether it is within Christianity, Islam or Judaism. Interpretation is key in religion and faith because what one sees and believes is not necessarily what everyone sees. For instance, Jesus (Prophet Isa) is a figure who plays a role in Christianity, Islam, and Judaism but is ‘seen’ different to one another based on our interpretations of his qualities and historical texts. Realizing that I know everything about who Jesus (Prophet Isa) was, why he was created, and his existence in Islam as a Muslim, I wanted to learn and expand my knowledge on what Christians beliefs were on Jesus. Crosson shows us the time period that Jesus lived and taught in describing the different constraints of religion and the economy at that time. This represents how Jesus a leper, a teacher protested his “egalitarian beliefs” about the Kingdom of God by challenging the writings of others. In the following chapter, Crosson explains how for one to be associated either physically or morally with Crucifixion was seen as “humiliation and destruction”. He goes on to reveal the true physical involvement of Crucifixion-a form of punishment with evidence from many sources such “Antiquities, War, and Zachariah”. For instance, when a feast occurred by “[the] dogs and birds” on the flesh of those who were crucified on the cross. The crucifixion of Jesus played an essential role in his position as a biblical figure, not only in one religion but many as a result. The final chapter titled “How Many Years Was Easter Sunday?”, Crosson uses several quotes of different authors and biblical references to show their contrasting beliefs on the years following Jesus’s crucifixion and his resurrection. Crosson comments by saying that revelations from the Apostles was based on what they “learned [and] lived” through compared to St. Paul whose revelation was based on a “trance like circumstance”.
