An analysis of the film Noah, the Watchers are perceived as controversial characters, yet served as a meaningful component of the ancient interpretation of the flood story. Aronofsky imaginatively combined the Watchers from Jewish Book of Enoch with the Nephilim from the Book of Genesis. This in turn, produced a unique approach in conveying the flood story which is often debatable. The perception of the Watchers has often been questioned and disputed regarding their physical image as well as the effectiveness of their use in the film Noah. Both Enoch and Genesis are religious historical books that refer to fallen angels. This was seen while fighting to protect the arc. As one Watcher died, it cried out for forgiveness. As it crumbled, his rock body transformed into light and was lifted upward into the sky. By Aronofsky’s using the Watchers and the great flood as he did, the industry was able to produce a film that viewers visually “visiting” the development of the origin of life’s story, or just picked up another interpretation of the flood. Yet perhaps, the movie’s concept just conveyed a decent story of human survival. Did these controversial Watcher characters add to the movie?
