Non Inertial Frame Of Reference In Roller Coasters

156 Words1 Pages
This same idea of inertial and non-inertial frames of reference can be directly applied to roller coasters. When you are standing in line to go on the ride and you’re watching those on the ride, you see them accelerating and moving all around. You are not accelerating and thus you are perceiving it from an inertial frame of reference. However, once you get on the ride with your friend who is seated beside you and you look to them, they appear as if they are not moving, but all of your surroundings are zooming past you. This time, from an inertial frame of reference (of a person standing in line watching you on the ride), you are accelerating. Thus, when you are on the ride, you are perceiving things from a non-inertial frame of reference.
