In her essay "Does Texting Affect Writing?", Michaela Cullington presents her argument that texting does not impact formal writing written by students. She discusses the concerns presented by many people about how texting language can transfer into writing, but through the use of personal experiences and credible sources she discusses how this is not true. Her use of multiple different studies and situations help boost her argument and allow the reader to truly see how students actually do formal writing. She presents a strong argument as to why those who believe students don't have the control and knowledge to write formally, instead of with text speak, are wrong.
Some professors evidently feel the need to help these students, which they should but, not just pass the Sooleem students because they don’t speak English well. The pass-fail system will not allow for professors to be biases and will show if the student really put the effort in and earned the pass. The professors should also be there to clarify lectures and assignments. At Grassi Noll, the professor said they wouldn’t be able to help because of their scholarly pursuits, which is understandable, they have busy schedules and are bound by contracts that require scholarly pursuits but, they still have an obligation to help the students if they have questions about that professor’s class and provide assistants and resources to students. With that said, just because the students sit in silence and don’t understand English doesn’t mean they get to just give a passing grade that they did or didn’t earn.
In a country like America where people all over the world come to obtain a better future for themselves and their children there is a large diversity with culture and languages. Most immigrant families comes to American speaking a different language and have to adapt to the American language, English. However some people don’t learn English or have difficulty learning it. Usually older people have difficulty learning English or just don’t have time, on the other hand children are sent to school where they are taught English. In this situation children now have to learn a new language and keep their native language.

The teacher had such a bad influence on him that he would not speak the language he was learning outside of the classroom. However, the teacher is not always to blame for the students’ lack of knowledge. It all comes down to people’s attitude towards learning. If people truly want to learn, they will. If people does not want to learn, they will not.
Language is another difficulty for Chinese students during their studying in America, because of that many Chinese students might not understand well about the class they are taking. Some Chinese students use to ask their Chinese classmates about the part they could not understand about, some even ask the questions for understanding during the tests, which cause them be expelled by their cheating problems. Therefore, international students, not just Chinese students, should ask questions directly to their professors if they are confusing of their courses and assignments, and students should be familiar with the rules they should follow with in the American colleges. The most impactful concept I learned in Bank’s book is about language diversity and how it impacts ELL students. Most of the immigrant workers doesn’t speak English, have low paying jobs and live in poverty. I can relate to this topic because I was an ELL student and I know what it is like to learn English. It was a struggle to come to America and to learn English. Kids can be mean and bully their ELL classmate which make some of them don’t want to go to school.
There are many issues to address in education issues and programs with all French minority, visible minorities and Aboriginal peoples. Currently, 15% of all Canadians are of French ethnic origin. In addition, the visible minority make up of 19% of all Canadians. In combining all these minorities together, they still only make up a small part of the Canadian population.
